Fun with Dry Ice and Roller Coaster Model

Also known as solid carbon dioxide, dry ice is what produces the dense white mist used for effect on stage. We had the privilege of experimenting with dry ice during the last week of school in term 3. Here are some pictures.

A little water, some dry ice, a balloon over the top and.......... POP! goes the
balloon before you can say Jack Robinson.

An empty tin, a little water, some cubes of dry ice, replace the lid and run!

If you look closely, you will see the white mist
only because the lid popped off.
Add dry ice to a dish washing solution.
Add more dry ice to a food colour solution.

Seemingly never-ending foam from the soap solution. And white mist from the green solution!

Mrs McCarthy brought us a model of a roller coaster to show us how it works
using pull forces, push forces and gravity.

Congratulations to Jeremiah, April and Daniel for working hard in Mathematics.
